Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chief of the Party in overall program implementation by providing technical and/or operational leadership;
  • The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will be instrumental in assisting the Chief of Party with the strategic leadership and management of the USAID-funded Global Health Security Activity;
  • The DCOP will ensure that the activity’s objectives are achieved through impactful interventions and will act as the program’s representative to USAID and other stakeholders when the COP is unavailable;
  • Overseeing the project’s multidisciplinary technical team and their activities;
  • Analyzing briefs, writing progress reports, and ensuring compliance with USAID regulations and alignment with global best practices;
  • Leading the fulfillment of contract/agreement goals, meeting or surpassing project targets and deliverables on time and within budget;
  • Developing work schedules, spearheading staff capacity-building initiatives, and identifying potential program risks;
  • Designing, implementing, and monitoring engagement initiatives with the private sector and civil society;
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of project financial operations to ensure proper systems and procedures are in place and adhered to;
  • Additionally, the DCOP will support the COP in preparing annual work plans that ensure technical quality and foster cooperation with project staff, USAID, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualification/Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • A degree in a related field such as Public Health, Business or Public Administration or local equivalent;
  • Relevant experience in working on similar health programs in complex environments, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management position for health-related projects;
  • Experience in a formal setting interacting with executive-level government representatives, partners and stakeholders;
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to lead and build consensus, cooperation, and coalitions among individuals with competing interests;
  • Demonstrated technical experience in GHS areas: AMR, Disease Prevention, Detection and Response; Health Systems Strengthening and One Health;
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze state policies, regulations and standards related to the Public Health and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Strong communication skills in English, speaking and writing.
