OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Unitaid, a partnership hosted by the World Health Organization is focused on accelerating the introduction and adoption of key health products primarily for HIV & co-infections, tuberculosis, malaria and women & children's health. It creates systemic conditions for sustainable and equitable access and aims to foster inclusive and demand-driven partnerships for innovation. It designs and invests in innovative approaches to make quality health products available and affordable in low- and middle-income countries. It promotes collective efforts with partners, countries and communities, unlocking access to the tools, services and care than can deliver the best results, improve health and address global health priorities

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the overall guidance of Executive Director and direct supervision of Deputy Executive Director, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

  • Establishing and communicating the Executive Director's vision and priorities for the year;
  • Lead organizational efforts to translate these into enterprise-wide organizational plans and facilitates the work of Unitaid Senior Management and staff to optimize the allocation of organizational budgets and human resources;
  • Regularly monitor and manage organizational performance, and make informed, risk-based decisions about prioritization of efforts and course correction when Unitaid's strategic or operational environment changes;
  • As the Secretariat for Unitaid's SMT, the Team Lead, Executive Office, facilitates the success of organizational workplans by designing and maintaining a thoughtful, proactive schedule for SMT engagements, timed to align with organizational plans and priorities, and supported by high-quality analyses and other relevant tools/information to facilitate SMT deliberations and decision-making;
  • Plan, design, and lead regular internal communications with all Secretariat staff to promote understanding of organizational priorities and plans and awareness of new information and knowledge gathered during implementation of the Secretariat's planned work;
  • Facilitate successful implementation of organizational plans by ensuring that necessary controls, standards, tools, policies, and procedures are established, systemized, monitored, and continuously improved;
  • Lead the Secretariat's continuous improvement, information management, and risk management initiatives;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential:

  • Advanced university degree in Administration, Management, Development Studies, Public Health, Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Desirable:

  • Professional certification in a formal project management methodology (e.g., Agile, Prince2, Six Sigma).

Experience

Essential:

  • At least 10 years of experience supporting organizational planning and/or management initiatives/activities at an international development organization that has a complex grant management component;
  • Experience in health projects in at least 3 of the 5 Unitaid programmatic priority areas (i.e., HIV and coinfections, TB, malaria, women and children's health, global health emergencies);
  • Experience working in-country in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a UN organization/agency or equivalent;
  • Experience leading an organization's risk management, continuous improvement, and information management functions;
  • Experience supporting an organization's Senior Management Team (or equivalent).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise and compelling way;

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, tact, discretion, patience, and mature judgment;

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, consolidate, manage, and present data and information from multiple providers for organizational planning, monitoring, decision-making, and reporting;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, administer, and manage engagements with external consultants and management consulting firms;
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff and effectively plan and manage team/unit budgets and workplans;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines;
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset, with the ability to take initiative and drive results.
