ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Team Lead for an upcoming Increasing Resilience of Island Economies activity in Jamaica funded by USAID. The anticipated program will strengthen communities, key economic sectors and Jamaica's enabling environment to prepare for climate change and disasters.
The DRR Lead will design and implement risk reduction approaches to enhance economic resilience and develop climate adaptation strategies in multiple sectors. They will engage with local stakeholders, oversee the project’s technical implementation related to risk reduction and sector resilience. The program is anticipated to start in 2025 and this position will be based in Kingston, Jamaica.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of DRR approaches to enhance economic resilience and sustainability in key sectors
- Develop and promote strategies that integrate resilience into market systems, ensuring sustainable economic growth
- Promote innovative solutions and best practices in DRR in multiple sectors
- Collaborate with private sector partners, government agencies, and community organizations to foster inclusive and resilient market systems
- Provide training and technical assistance to local stakeholders on DRR development and sector-focused adaptation
- Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of DRR interventions, ensuring they meet program objectives and deliver measurable impacts
- Promote a culture of innovation and learning
- Manage and oversee multiple direct reports, including sector resilience managers
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, environmental science, disaster management, or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable sector development, such as agriculture, or relevant field.
- In-depth understanding of and experience with DRR, market systems development, agriculture, climate data, disasters and their impacts, and resilience-building strategies.
- Previous experience with facilitation and collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working in Jamaica required.
- Fluency in English is required.
