Communications Specialist for USAID/Bangladesh’s Nutrition Activity

The goal of the Activity is to contribute to improvements in the nutrition outcomes for children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls in the Feed the Future (FtF) Zone of Influence (ZoI) by (1) increasing consumption of nutritious, diverse, and safe diets by rural households; (2) increasing social and economic empowerment of girls and women; and (3) improving adoption of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. The Activity will implement nutrition-sensitive interventions that complement and reinforce ongoing nutrition-specific activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Communications Director, the Communications Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing the Activity’s communications and outreach strategies, managing report production, and ensuring compliance with the project’s Branding and Marking Plan. This may include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Support development of an integrated communications strategy;
  • Support the project’s technical, cross-cutting, and operations teams to ensure efficient planning and implementation of communications activities;
  • Create and disseminate appropriate communication products via relevant channels, including traditional and social media, events, printed materials and video. Ensure key messages are consistently delivered to relevant target audiences across all channels;
  • Write and package success stories for internal and external publications;
  • Ensure consistent and coherent USAID and Feed the Future branding and editorial style across all Activity outputs, including media outreach, audiovisual material, publications, reports, documents and presentations;
  • With the Communications Director, develop weekly bullets and monthly reports summarizing activity progress, challenges, successes, and learning;
  • With the Abt Home Office, coordinate production of, format, and edit annual and quarterly reports;
  • Coordinate with the Social and Behavior Change Technical Lead to contribute to development of prototypes and nudges that influence market behaviors for improved nutrition and WASH outcomes;
  • Champion innovative and nimble methods to drive communications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (communications, journalism, social sciences, international development) and at least 2+ years of relevant professional experience;
  • Or Master’s degree in a relevant field (communications, journalism, social sciences, international development) and 0-2 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Prior experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably with USAID;
  • Excellent English language proficiency, including report writing skills;
  • Strong creative and analytical skills and good strategic judgment;
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work closely with peers;
  • Ability to remain organized and focused on long-term vision and strategy;
  • Strong understanding of media planning and experience working on digital communications;
  • Excellent Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills. Experience in Google platforms and other virtual working platforms is an added quality.
