We are seeking a dynamic and experienced External Communications Manager to join our policy, evidence, and influencing teams. This role involves developing and executing communication strategies to engage and influence global high-level policy audiences, including donors, governments, and organisations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement plans to engage key donor and policy audiences in regions like Africa, Asia, and Latin America, focusing on awareness and use of evidence in agri-food systems.
- Event Management: Design, coordinate, and promote events, conferences, and webinars for maximum visibility and participation.
- Support Engagement: Support senior staff in engaging high-level decision-makers and policymakers.
- Content Creation: Produce high-quality content for various platforms, tailored to target audiences, including technical information from evidence synthesis and modelling.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with media outlets to secure coverage and promote evidence-informed policy and research programming.
- Digital Communications: Oversee digital channels, including websites, social media, and email campaigns.
- Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyse the performance of campaigns, providing regular reports and recommendations.
ABOUT YOU:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in policy or public affairs roles, preferably within scientific, educational, or non-profit organisations.
- Multi-Cultural Contexts: Experience interacting with senior stakeholders in low and middle-income governments, as well as high-income governments.
- Channels: Proficient in using various channels to reach global policy audiences.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
- Media Relations: Experience in media and public relations strategies.
- Digital Tools: Proficiency in digital communications tools and platforms.
- Project Management: Strong skills in managing multiple priorities.
- Passion: For science, education, and public engagement.
- Interpersonal Skills: A leader and team player with excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to handle a demanding workload and address problems systematically.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work globally across multiple political and cultural environments.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Development Communication, Public Relations, or Science Communication (advanced degree preferred). Alternatively, a degree in a scientific subject with communications experience will be considered.
