Communications Manager - Congo Basin Forestry Action Programme (CBFAP)

Abt Global Britain seeks a Communications Manager to support the anticipated FCDO-funded Congo Basin Forestry Action Programme (CBFAP). CBFAP is a seven-year program to support effective forest governance and markets reform; provide grassroots support to local communities; mobilize private sector finance for forests; and drive reform, ambition and cooperation. The Communications Manager is responsible for delivering key communications products and maintaining public relations with key stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the CBFAP Communications Coordinator
- Provide high-quality communication advice and other services to the CBFAP management and program teams
- Develop, review, and implement the CBFAP Communications and Engagement Strategy and Action Work Plan (covering both external and internal communications)
- Support the implementation of the CBFAP Communication Strategies and project strategies as they arise, including producing strategic public diplomacy materials
- Implement relevant communications components of the CBFAP GEYDSI strategy
- Produce high quality communications products including, press releases, reports, meeting minutes, talking points, social media content including short videos, and identifying content for CBFAP and Abt internal newsletter)
- Collate relevant information from a variety of sources, extract appropriate material and present it in a coherent manner to senior managers
- Manage the responses to general inquiries from stakeholders and partners
- Utilise desktop design and publishing software to produce reports and other media material for stakeholders
- Market, communicate and coordinate events including assisting with the coordination of events including launches, seminars, conferences and other key Subnational and CBFAP communication activities
- Provide creative, editorial, and operational support for communications projects
- Raise the profile and visibility of Program activities
- Facilitate the sharing of information across the partnerships through reflection workshops and support stakeholder engagement
- Manage the partnership brand in line with FCDO guidelines
- Provide any other support as required
What We Value
We are seeking an individual who will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, development, social science, economics, governance, or another relevant discipline
- Demonstrated understanding of role and activities of public and private sectors and non-government and faith-based organisations in a complex environment such as the Congo Basin
- Demonstrated experience (10+years desirable) in managing and delivering communications strategies and activities for large, complex programs. Experience in international development would be an asset
- Experience in creative communications, videography, content writing and managing both external and internal communications and activities
- Proven written and oral presentation skills in English and French
- Experience working with FCDO (or other donor)
