Project Overview:

Room to Read India, in partnership with the Palladium Group is planning to implement a ECE program in co-located Anganwadis of select districts. The goal of the project is to improve school readiness outcomes among more than 51,132 with 3–6-year-old students in Uttarakhand state Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) through comprehensive, emergent literacy package that leverages private sector resources and current USAID India investments. While implementing the initiative in three districts, Room to Read will engage with government to replicate and expand inputs throughout the state and ensure alignment with State’s ECE initiative.

Position Overview:

The Block Coordinator will be responsible for supporting CDPOs, Supervisors, Anganwadi workers in co-located Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) to help them adopt to new ways of working with children that increase the child’s school readiness in all domains. They will report to the District Lead and will not have any direct reports. This position is based at respective block head quarter of the 3 districts.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Program Understanding:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Room to Read’s ECE program design.
  • Provide reflective feedback on program design and implementation (especially with respect to progress towards outcomes) and demonstrate a solution-oriented approach.
  • Serve as a technical resource to the co-located Anganwadi centers (AWCs) in the domain of ECE for any ECE trainings at the block level.

AWCs visits:

  • Undertake AWCs visits every day and with Government resource persons/CRPs/Supervisors at block levels every day, except for days when on official travel and leave.
  • Conduct informal assessment during every AWCs visit and discuss with Anganwadi Workers and share report to supervisors.
  • Support officials in conducting ongoing student tracking assessments and plan corrective action.
  • Supports in establishing corners, community engagement, libraries / reading corners.
  • Regularly provide the principals/ Headmasters an update on progress and coach them on ways to support teachers and ensure longer term sustainability of literacy outcomes within the school.

Training, workshop and meeting:

  • Co-ordinate with Block officials towards all aspects of program roll out.
  • Lead delivery of trainings at block level.
  • Participate and facilitate in regular trainings (AWCs) related to the program.
  • Participate in development of materials, training modules and other technical resources as required.
  • Attend professional development training and workshops at block/district/state/national level, as required.
  • Attend review meetings at block/district level with government stakeholder, as required.

Planning, Reporting and Documentation:

  • Compile and analyse school readiness data across domains data conducted by AWCs and plan AWCs wise corrective action in discussion with supervisors.
  • Tracks and reports data to ensure timely and accurate reporting to stakeholders.
  • Conducts ongoing planning, documentation, and reporting.
  • Write weekly/monthly reports to as per program template, in a template provided by RtR along with the photographs.
  • Documents best practices and lessons learned and shares with the program team.
  • Supports in donor visits, and in any other activities which may be required to be undertaken to fulfil the objectives of the organization.
  • Support with any assessments or evaluation as required.

Qualification:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education/social sciences or equivalent
  • Minimum 2- 3 years of relevant experience in development projects, preferably in education.
  • Teaching experience at ECE level preferred, though not required.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player.
  • Good documentation skills in Hindi.
  • Ability to work at scale and willingness to find solutions to create impact.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills.
