ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Market Systems Development (MSD) Manager for an upcoming agriculture and value chain activity in Zimbabwe funded by USAID.

​The MSD Manager will provide technical leadership to design and implement MSD strategies and oversee partnerships. They will also guide the project team in developing market interventions. The program is anticipated to start in 2025 and this position will be based in Zimbabwe.​

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to program participants in market identification and development, agricultural value chain development, agricultural supply chain management, private sector development, business development, regional and international trade policies, and promotion of investments
  • Design and implement strategies and work plans to strengthen market linkages, expand access to markets, support the development, deployment, and demonstration of climate-smart technologies and practices, and strengthen input, service, and capacity building networks for diversified livelihoods activities
  • Provide technical assistance to agricultural product development via viable market orientation, stakeholder engagement, and considering the challenges related to climate smart production transition
  • Contribute to development and management of strategies to improve uptake of nutrition-sensitive, inclusive, and climate-smart business practices
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with cooperatives, partners, collaborators, rural finance institutions, and other associated stakeholders
  • Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to develop M&E tools on business model outcomes
  • Collaborate with the private sector to facilitate the purchasing and transport of agricultural products that meet target market quality standards
  • Ensure the reporting on results, changes, revenue generation, and profitability of marketed volumes, climate smart technologies, and private sector engagement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, business management, or relevant field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in market studies, economic growth, trade, value chain development, competitiveness, or agricultural development programs.
  • Previous experience scaling solutions through private sector partnerships with agriculture value chain actors, financial institutions, and the private sector.  
  • Previous experience with facilitation and collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in value chain development and USAID’s value chain approach is preferred.
  • Experience working in Zimbabwe preferred.
  • Fluency in English required.
