Overall, the Director will be responsible for the following:
Country Strategy Implementation and Refinement
Own overall implementation of Namati’s five-year EJ country strategy for India;
Directly manage and supervise EJ Program staff in India. In consultation with team, help ensure efforts of the team remain on track by developing annual work plans, budgets, benchmarks, and measures of success;
Work with the team members continually to analyze strategy implementation, successes, and challenges, and refine country strategy as needed.
Government Outreach and Capacity Building
Work with team members and partner organisations to cultivate relationships with government officials in relevant Ministries and agencies;
In collaboration with the India EJ Advisors, make recommendations related to environmental regulations based on Namati’s approach to EJ;
Support the team members in creating forms, templates, and tools to aid the implementation of environment laws in India and recommend these to government.
Civil Society Outreach and Capacity Building
Build relationships with civil society organizations, academics, and activists that are working to implement environment regulation in India;
In collaboration with the other team members, select, train, and manage new partner organizations.
Fundraising and Grants Management
Build and cultivate relationships with current and potential funders, including foundations, other NGOs, intergovernmental institutions, bilateral funders, domestic philanthropies;
Help develop a fundraising strategy that builds diversity and resilience through funding relationships that are aligned with us in values;
Oversee proposal development and reporting requirements for grants.
Namati Global and the Legal Empowerment Network
Serve and actively participate on Namati’s global leadership team;
Ensure that lessons from the work in India are shared with other Namati teams and with the wider legal empowerment community. Vice versa, help apply learning from that wider community in India where appropriate;
Ensure alignment between the Namati-CPR EJ program and Namati Global in the areas of finance, administration, knowledge management, and other cross cutting areas, while remaining compliant with CPR guidelines and relevant Indian laws;
Collaborate cross-thematic learning across the land and environment programs;
Engage in advocacy for legal empowerment and environmental justice at regional and global levels.
About You/Must-Haves for the Position:
Track record of getting results: You are a seasoned strategist who has spent time working at the intersections of community organizing, law, and policy, with successful advocacy on casework. You hold a master's degree in natural sciences, social sciences or social work, or a law degree, along with 7+ years relevant work experience;
Evidence of time spent building strategic partnerships: You have built strong program and fundraising networks during the course of your career. You are skilled at maintain mutually respectful relationships with a variety of stakeholders;
Exceptional communication skills: Your written and verbal communications evidence clarity of thought, analysis and sensitivity to audience and context. You have a track record of writing/publishing on environmental justice and/or legal empowerment;
Collaborative and service-oriented: You greet everyone you encounter with a collaborative spirit, kindness, and empathy;
