Description

Our MAF Programme in Timor Leste, a former Portuguese colony, has two GA8 aircraft serving isolated communities within this mountainous nation. The majority of flights are medevacs transferring critically ill patients for the Ministry of Health.

We are now looking for our own 'super hero' to become the Country Director of our Timor Leste programme. You will lead and inspire the multi national team being instrumental in helping MAF to achieve its vision.

Responsibilities

There are also numerous unexplored ministry opportunities in Timor Leste using aviation and other technology and you will explore these developmental opportunities, mobilising MAF to be not only an effective service provider, but one that is developing aviation professionals in Timor Leste. You will work with local partners, regulatory authorities and country officials to achieve the programme goals.

You will ensure all operational activities in the programme are carried out within the approved annual budget by monitoring internal control systems and taking corrective action where necessary.

To ensure that MAF's activities have an impact in places of greatest needs by:

  • Evaluating the extent to which MAF's activities can/do impact needs in the country of service;
  • Managing and improving the programme's service delivery to ensure maximum impact, in line with organisational strategy;
  • Working with staff to develop and communicate a clear sense of vision and purpose, for the programme as a whole, and each individual within it;
  • Identifying, evaluating and as applicable implementing initiatives for the development of rural aviation service in Timor Leste.

To develop partnerships with service users by:

  • Proactively seeking out and developing partnerships with current and potential service users;
  • Ensuring that a high standard of customer care is provided to users of all MAF services;
  • Promoting the formation of good and harmonious relationships with host-country officials, local leaders and appropriate government departments.

To support the effective performance and wellbeing of the MAF Team by:

  • Working with individuals and groups to facilitate their effective performance;
  • Overseeing the personal, spiritual and corporate wellbeing of the programme team;
  • Taking firm action in the event of individual or team performance falling below acceptable standards.

To support effective & efficient use of resources through:

  • Ensuring the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources within the programme;
  • Working together with the HR department and/or local labour office to ensure good human resource management systems within the programme;
  • Ensuring that information is sent to resource providers in a timely fashionand to a good standard;
  • Ensuring that the programme provides the necessary information and stories to enable accurate reporting on key EON and capital projects on a regular basis.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Aptitude in verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning;
  • Excellent spoken and written English;
  • University graduate or equivalent experience;
  • Either team management experience and/or project management experience involving working with others;
  • Personal experience of working in a developing country;
  • Experience of working in aviation or related field is desirable;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Proven experience learning a foreign language.
