Project Director - Strengthening Women’s Contribution to the Formal and Informal Economies in the Middle East

FHI 360 currently is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Director for an anticipated U.S. Department of State-funded “Strengthening Women’s Contribution to the Formal and Informal Economies in the Middle East” opportunity. The project focuses on promoting women’s economic empowerment through data-driven initiatives; seeks to assist economic stakeholders in developing action plans to recruit, retain, and promote qualified women in the formal sector; and explore ways to improve measures, policies, and practices that control the informal economy in which women are involved.

The Project Director oversees the leadership team of the project, directs administrative and operational support, and manages relationships with the client and all stakeholders. Additionally, he/she works to ensure successful implementation of the program by managing the resources, personnel, communications strategy, and the processes and protocols of the project in full compliance with FHI 360 requirements. He/she will have authority to make decisions on technical direction as well as financial matters. The position will be based in Amman, Jordan and involves travel to other countries in the region. Actual hiring for the position is contingent upon successful award of the project to FHI 360.

The Project Director will be based in Amman, Jordan. Nationals from all countries of the Middle East and North Africa are encouraged to apply.

Specific responsibilities of the Project Director include:

  • Playing a lead representation and facilitation role in interactions with key economic stakeholders, other development partners, and representatives of governments in the project’s target countries;
  • Overseeing the technical and management staff, and providing overall technical direction and guidance to achieve project objectives;
  • Providing technical leadership for the design and implementation of technical strategies, programs, and/or tools to achieve the program results;
  • Providing technical oversight based upon expertise and knowledge of evidence-based methods and strategies, current practice, and established operational and research standards to ensure quality and rigorous design;
  • Establishing the project work plans and SOPs to meet project goals and ensure compliance with U.S. Government and FHI 360 policies;
  • Ensuring completion of project on schedule and within budget considerations.

Requirements:

  • 10 years of project management experience, preferably in leadership roles of U.S. Government-funded activities, in countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region;
  • Advanced degree in economics, business, international development, public policy, education, or other relevant field;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope;
  • Demonstrated experience in sub-award management and/or leading research teams and activities in the MENA region;
  • Demonstrated experience in gender integration and women’s economic empowerment, particularly in the Middle East and Jordan;
  • Demonstrated strategic planning, staff development. and capacity building experience;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills;
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English; fluency in Arabic preferred.
