The Project Leader will provide global leadership to a large, private-sector oriented aquaculture project that is intended to increase productivity, income, nutrition and women’s empowerment for smallholder fish farmers in Bangladesh and Nigeria. In Bangladesh the focus is on using private sector business and digital approaches to empower small-scale farmers at scale. In Nigeria, the focus is building an improved knowledge base on the potential role of aquaculture in meeting development goals for that country, and to establish the analytical underpinnings for future decisions about developing Nigeria’s aquaculture sector and its contribution to the economy and livelihoods of that region.
S/he will provide overall leadership of the project and country-level activities throughout their lifecycle, including engaging with country teams that will support planning, implementing, and reporting throughout. A critical component of the job will be to bring private sector experiences and business knowledge to WorldFish, and to lead preparation and implementation of the private sector engagement strategy for the project and for the broader organization, seeking to leverage for-profit partners in achieving the project goals for sustainable aquaculture growth while delivering positive impacts at scale for smallholders within both countries.
The position will be based out of Penang, Malaysia and will involve significant international travel.
