Communications and Knowledge Management Adviser

The Communications and Knowledge Management Adviser will work closely with the Director of GEM, Deputy Directors, Project Managers and Communications focal points ensuring the development and implementation of an innovative strategic communications plan and shared vision for the GEM Division. This will include media strategies, community engagement, internal support, partnership development, strategic advisory roles to senior management, event management of relevant regional meetings, digital production, and monitoring and evaluation support for internal/external reporting.

  • Communications Capacity Development.

Key selection criteria

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor or master’s degree preferably in communications, media, journalism or related subject, or alternatively in a discipline relating to Geoscience, Energy, and Maritime.

Knowledge and experience

  • 7 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a regional coordination role, especially the ability to work and manage teams remotely;
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing effective regional media network partnerships for public messaging;
  • Experiences of working within and/or supporting national government agencies, and key stakeholders such as private sector.

Essential skills

  • Proven analytical skills and the ability to master, compile, summarize and communicate new material quickly;
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding the use of environmental information in natural resource planning, management and infrastructure design
  • Excellent PC based computer skills, preferably with current Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint.

Language skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (oral and written);
  • Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive and equitable environment.
