Project Director, USAID/Bangladesh Accelerating Universal Access to Family Planning Project



Job summary:

The Project Director (PD) serves as key personnel on the USAID/Bangladesh Accelerating Universal Access to Family Planning Project that aims to contribute to the improved health and human capital in Bangladesh. The PD will have overall responsibility for coordination of all project activities and staff and ensuring that all USAID award requirements are met. S/he will have principal responsibility for representation of the project to USAID. The project will operate over a five-year period. The PD has overall responsibility for setting strategy, directing and achieving project results; and for managing the critical relationships with funders, in-country agencies, EngenderHealth Headquarters, partners, and other key stakeholders. (S)he has overall project, managerial, and fiscal responsibility for the project including ensuring compliance with donor and EngenderHealth regulations, policies, and procedures. (S)he will have direct responsibility for supervision of designated staff.

  • A senior manager with an advanced degree in FP, public health, the social sciences or a related area; strong understanding of public, NGO and private for-profit FP sectors;
  • strong understanding of health systems strengthening; strong understanding of health personnel development and training;
  • strong understanding of adolescent and youth issues related to health and FP services; strong understanding of gender issues;
  • knowledge of the culture and context of Bangladesh;
  • at least 12 years’ experience leading, managing and implementing large, complex projects to improve FP programs;
  • a proven a bility to develop and maintain effective collaboration with government counterparts and other international and local organizations working in the health/FP sector at the highest levels;
  • Strategic vision and ability to provide clear strategic and operational guidance to the team to effectively develop, plan, implement, and monitor the project;
  • Proven ability to identify issues and ensure that they are resolved collaboratively;
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and collaboration with USAID, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and host-country counterparts from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector project;
  • Proven professional and ethical behavior in all interactions with all stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated experience managing public and private sector sub-grants preferred;
  • Ability to inspire and empower team members to adopt project goals and achieve objectives;
  • Record of team building through mentorship, providing opportunities for growth and development;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (e.g., active listening, cultural competence, responsiveness);
  • Demonstrated computer competence including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
  • Experience preparing and making presentations for national and international audiences;
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Bangladesh and internationally.
