The Health & Nutrition Program Manager is responsible for strategic development, coordination, and management of Health & Nutrition programming for Samaritan’s Purse (SP) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This includes supervising and reporting on current programs as well as developing new programming opportunities.

Description of Job duties:

  • Under the direction of the Senior Program Manager (SPM), provide leadership over the development of a Health & Nutrition Sector Strategy for SP DRC;
  • Directly guide, manage, and support Health & Nutrition project staff through assigning work packets, conducting performance reviews, resolving team conflicts, capacity-building, ongoing technical support, direction and constructive feedback;
  • Increase SP DRC Health & Nutrition program visibility by representing SP DRC in various coordination forums, and by developing relationships with Health & Nutrition clusters, local government, other INGOs/NGOs, and other stakeholders in SP DRC’s areas of operation as it pertains to Health & Nutrition;
  • Ensure information-sharing and coordination of project activities with relevant local government departments, health centers, NGOs and community stakeholders;
  • Ensure all project activities are in line with national and international standards; but also ensure they are conducted in a timely fashion to meet project objectives;
  • Provide Health & Nutrition technical assistance to PDO in developing new project proposals that align with Country Office strategy for sector-specific and multi-sectoral programming;
  • Effectively manage project finances through adherence to SP and donor financial guidelines within approved budget limits. This includes budget planning and forecasting, budget monitoring by regularly tracking financial expenditures, managing FERs (Field Expense Reports) and ensuring all project expenditures are accompanied with appropriate justifications (such as receipts), conducting PAR reviews, and ensuring the accuracy and timely submission of financial reports;
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, as well as other reports required by internal stakeholders and external donors;
  • With technical assistance from the M&E Coordinator, regularly monitor and evaluate project activities to track progress toward indicators, incorporate lessons learned, and improve Health & Nutrition programming.

Job requirements:

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ;
  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university, plus three to four years of experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training in one or more of the following majors: Public Health, Nutrition, Community or International Development, Health, etc.;
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred;
  • Ability to fluently speak, read and write in English and French. Ability to speak Swahili is a plus;
  • Experience working in humanitarian organizations will be an advantage;
  • Proven competence in managing staff cross-culturally;
  • Strong skills in analytical and strategic thinking;
  • Good quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Proven experience in Concept Notes and proposal development;
  • Ability to travel to field sites to monitor projects;
  • Previous experience in eastern DRC/Africa, specifically in Health & Nutrition interventions;
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.
